Test - Renault Scénic dCi 110 hp hybrid Assist: first in a long line

Renault benefits from the 4th generation Scénic to introduce a new version, hybrid. This technology is expected to expand soon to other models of the brand. First try

It was not until 2016 that Renault launched into the hybrid. Therefore, the manufacturer the diamond is far from being a pioneer in the field: many brands have accelerated, and in all segments. Surprisingly enough, while Peugeot has recently abandoned its diesel hybrid and that it is precisely this type of carburetor that Renault entered.
But be careful, do not think that this is a true hybrid, like a Toyota Prius. This is actually a micro-hybridization, as could be a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 for example, the difference here that is not equipped Scénic no wheel drive. The well known dCi 110 hp and is coupled to a 10 kW electric motor powered by a 48 volt battery located in the trunk. Its operation is relatively straightforward: the electric supply comes to help the motor during acceleration phases while the battery is charging during deceleration. Result, the dCi 110 benefits from extra torque up to 15 Nm. In use, it is generally transparent, although we noticed some small differences. Thus, by using the electric block, the dCi 110 hp offers more flexibility whatever the gear engaged. The other benefit is felt at the Stop & Start, responsive and quick restart thanks to the presence of the alternator, which also traditionally gum jolts felt on diesel. The last change concerns the significantly greater engine braking, which is logical because of energy recovery but does not prove necessarily pleasant.
With this micro-hybridization, Renault announced a drop in consumption of 8 to 10% (0.4 l / 100 km) compared to the standard dCi 110 engine. On our test conducted predominantly in urban areas, we recorded an average of 6 l / 100 km: good, but not exceptional. CO2 emissions are also down. They now reach 92 g / km instead of 100 g / km for the dCi 110 traditional c. Something to appeal to professionals and company fleets are hunting grams to reduce their TVS (tax on company cars).

However, three black points remain: the first concerns the trunk, cut 100 liters, the second extra weight of 75 kg, which makes it Scénic now exceeds 1500 kg and the third the same use. It is thus totally impossible to drive in 100% electric, would do two kilometers.

If the Scénic evolves mechanical level, no change aesthetically almost. Only the logo Hybrid Assist appears on the tailgate and the little gauge in instrumentation, illustrating the motor assist or energy recovery. Everything else is identical to the other engines including the interior presentation, with the new dashboard that characterizes the fourth generation Scénic (end of the central instrumentation and ironing board similar to the Renault Mégane). Note that the Assist Hybrid is not sold with the Life line input. It will necessarily choose between Zen and Intensity levels. Our test model average finish Zen also offers a comprehensive staffing, including lane departure warning, automatic activation of headlamps and wipers, the electric parking brake, 7 inch digital meters the access card and keyless start, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, sliding center console, multimedia radio with touch screen 7 inches and 6 speakers, tablets behind the front seats and storage drawers under the driver's seat, the upholstery fabric with embossed patterns and obviously alloy wheels 20 inches.
